An Unbreakable Addiction

Billionaire Add 61

"What's your game, Mia? Why are you sneaking off to see her?" Jenna's voice was tense, and after shooting Mandy a glare, she turned and rushed out of the office.Text © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

Mandy let out a long sigh of relief. The new team leader's presence was intense and downright intimidating.

Jenna headed straight for the elevator, her tone frantic and threatening. "Mia, you come back to the firm right now! If you meet her, I'll fire you!"

Mia had no interest in arguing and simply ended the call. Putting away her phone, she couldn't help but glance back at the law firm across the street. Her bright eyes looked especially beautiful. After a moment, she saw a hurried figure approaching and she entered the café with a smile.

Inside, Mabel greeted her with a look of disapproval. "It's just across the street, yet you kept me waiting half an hour! Mia, do you think just because Mr. Jasper Sr. likes you, I won't do something about it?"

Mia sat down, smiling warmly. "I ran into a client as I was leaving and got held up for a few minutes. I'm sorry!" Her tone was as pleasant as could be.

Mabel scoffed. "With that little salary of yours, you couldn't even buy a handbag in a month! Yet you cling to that job like it's solid gold. Isn't it embarrassing?"

Mia couldn't quite guess why Mabel had asked to meet, so she opted to stay polite. "You know that there's no love between Hunter and me. He doesn't support me financially, so I have to work to support * myself."

Hunter's monthly allowance of $20,000 mostly went toward household expenses, and with her car loan, living costs, and gas, Mia had to rely on her own earnings. It wasn't like she could just ask Hunter for money. And even if she did, he probably wouldn't give it to her. Mabel looked at Mia for a long moment, gently stirring her coffee. "Since you're so aware that Hunter has no feelings for you, why cling to the Jasper family? Divorce him, and you'll get a hefty settlement. Then you won't have to work so hard just to support yourself." Mia narrowed her eyes. So, this was all about trying to make her initiate the divorce. But she had already asked for one but Hunter was the one unwilling to let go. Of course, she wouldn't tell Mabel that.

"Hunter and Jenna have known each other since they were kids. They've got over a decade of history and a bond that's unbreakable," Mabel said, her words hitting hard.

"Even with you by his side, you mean nothing to him. To put it nicely, you're his woman. To put it bluntly, you're just there to keep his bed warm." She paused, her gaze cutting. "How does it feel, watching your husband cozy up to another woman every day? Must hurt, doesn't it?"

Mia's hands clenched as she took in Mabel's mean expression. She knew well enough that Hunter only saw her as nothing more than a bedmate, without a shred of real feeling. But having someone else lay it out so bluntly made the sting that much worse. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Mia spoke calmly, "If you are so eager for me to leave Hunter, perhaps you could help me collect some evidence of his infidelity or even bigamy. Then I'd have the leverage to ask for a divorce."

She had heard before that Mabel had always wanted to introduce her own niece to Hunter, but Mia had beaten her to it. Mabel practically loathed her for it, and for the past three years, she had never shown her a single kind look, even frequently setting up obstacles for her behind the scenes.
