Mia's body swayed, barely able to stay upright.

Summer quickly reached out to steady her. "Mia, are you okay?Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.

Mia gave her a faint smile, then turned to the doctor and said, "I figure out something about the medication. I'm going to see my grandma now."

With that, she walked off, pulling Summer along with her.

The doctor watched her retreating figure and let out a long sigh. He knew all too well that the money would only keep her grandmother's life hanging by a thread, buying a little more time.

Yet, Mia stubbornly refused to let go, making life so hard on herself. He couldn't understand why she was so determined to endure such hardship.

What the doctor didn't know was that Mia wasn't just trying to hold onto her grandmother's life, she was trying to hold onto the only family she had left. If her grandmother passed, Mia would have no home. She would be completely alone, which was even more heartbreaking

Inside the hospital room, her grandmother hadn't yet woken up. She lay in the bed, frail and thin, tubes connected to her body. Over the years, her health had deteriorated so much that she was now just skin and bones.

Mia stood by the bed, her eyes red with tears,

Summer gently hugged her. "Mia, talk to her. I'll wait outside."

Mia nodded, pulling up a chair and sitting down next to her grandmother. She gently held her grandmother's hand and whispered, "Grandma, you have to hang on. If you leave me, I'll be all alone. How could I survive that?" As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes.

A nurse came in to change the IV, followed by the caregiver carrying a basin of water. The caregiver, Mrs. Perez, smiled warmly at Mia. "Good afternoon, Miss Smith."

"Mrs. Perez, thank you for all your hard work." Mia reached into her bag, pulling out an envelope of money and slipping it into Mrs. Perez's pocket. "I'm so busy these days and can't be here often. My grandma's been in your care. I really appreciate it." Mrs. Perez took the envelope out and handed it back to Mia. "No need for this, Miss Smith. My salary is plenty!"

She had never encountered such a generous and kind employer, and it touched her.

"Please, take it. I need to get going, but call me if my grandma wakes up." Mia gently pushed the envelope back into her hand.

She gave one last glance at her grandmother, and reluctantly left the room. She had to get back to work. Earning money was the only way she could afford her grandmother's treatments.

As she reached the door, her phone rang.

"Summer, what's wrong?"

"Something's come up at the studio, I need to go back right away. I'm so sorry, Mis, I can't stay with your

"Don't worry about me, go take care of it. Let me know if anything happens."

"Mia, make sure you take care of yourself. You're pregnant after all." As Summer spoke, a sudden chill can down her spine.

She looked up to see Hunter standing in front of her, his expression dark and menacing Panicking, she quickly ended the call, stumbling over her words, "M-Mr. Jasper..." Hunter barely glanced at her before walking away.

Summer let out a long breath, clutching her chest. Had he overheard their conversation?

What was Hunter doing here, anyway? Was he here to see Mia's grandmother?

Shaking off her thoughts, she hurried away.

Shortly after Summer left, Mia emerged from her grandmother's room. As she walked down the tall, the overheard two nurses gossiping excitedly.

"Mr. Jasper is so handsome! I almost couldn't walk when I saw him!"

"Well, it's not like it matters for you. He's already proposed to Miss Walker!"

"Giving her the family bracelet as part of the proposal, how thoughtful is that?"

"Miss Walker is staying in the VIP suite just down the hall. The staff here gets to watch their love story unfold every day!"

"They're such a perfect couple, aren't they? It's enough to make anyone jealous."

Hearing this, Mia felt a wave of bitterness in her chest. Not only was Jenna in the same hospital as her grandmother, but she was staying in the VIP suite on the same floor. Coincidence? Mia wasn't buying it.

Clenching her fists, she walked briskly toward the elevator.

Summer had reminded her that she needed to stay calm for the baby's sake.
