Alpha’s Predestined Bride

EPISODE 49 An emergency call

MOON STONE PACK

Unknowingly to Meagan, Jones followed her almost immediately. His mind was on her meeting the alpha in secret because he was no longer with his family again. Whereas the alpha had slipped out of the hall to check on his nephew who couldn’t make it to the wedding. He was admitted at the infirmary for severe stomachache after eating an unripe fruit last night.

Meagan called her sister back when she got to the garden. And Penelope picked almost immediately.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.

“Hi Penelope,” she greeted.

“Hey, Meagan. Where are you?” Penelope asked in a sad tone.

“I am still at Hazel’s pack. The wedding isn’t over yet.” Meagan answered.

She heard Penelope heave a sigh over the phone. “So when do you intend to return back home?” Penelope asked again.

“On Monday morning.” Meagan replied as she itches the bridge of her nose.

“That won’t work. I am sorry sis but you have to leave that pack and make it down to Connecticut.” Penelope sniffed.

“Hey.. what’s wrong? Is everything okay? How is Jane and her brother? What about your husband?” Meagan demanded frantically.

“They are fine. But dad is at the hospital here in Connecticut.” Penelope said.

Meagan’s jaw dropped immediately. “How? No.. I mean… how? When? When did he -” her voice broke off as she was finding it out to make out proper sentences.

“I got a call not too long that he collapsed on his exercising machine at him. I had to rush down here from office to be with mom.” Penelope explained.

“Okay.. So how is mom doing?” Meagan panicked.

“She is a mess.” Penelope whispered.

“What’s the doctor’s report about dad’s condition?” Meagan asked as she worked up courage and tried to calm herself down.

“I don’t know yet. The medical team are still attending to him.” Penelope answered.

“Dad will be fine right?” Meagan mumbled.

“I hope so. But shouldn’t it be the other way round? I mean I should be the one asking you if dad will be fine because you are a doctor.” Penelope replied.

“He’ll be fine.” Meagan said.

“That’s it.” Penelope sighed.

“Okay, I’ll right there with you.” Meagan added.

“Okay, bye. Extend my greetings to Hazel.” Penelope replied before she disconnected the call.

Jones was right in front of her when she turned to walk back to the hall. Meagan was startled and surprised to see him.

“Jones,” she muttered.

“I am sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you.” Jones apologized.

Meagan shook her head slowly in acknowledgement.

“I followed you immediately you left the table.” Jones added quickly.

“Why? I only came out to receive a call. You shouldn’t have bothered to follow me.” Meagan had an uncomfortable look on her face which Jones could also see and read clearly.

Meagan didn’t like the idea that Jones seemed too clingy with her. And earlier at the table people had thought there was something going on between them. Even some of his family members she had met had commented on how good they looked together as a couple.

“Listen Meagan, I don’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable. But I am just concerned about you.” Jones had an apologetic look on his face.

“It’s alright. I am fine.” Meagan mumbled.

“Is everything okay with your family?” Jones asked with a concerned look on his expression.

Meagan looked up at Jones realizing that he must have heard all of her conversation with her elder sister over the phone.

“My dad collapsed and he has been rushed to the hospital. I need-” her voice broke off as a lump of tears choked her throat but she tried hard not to let it down.

Meagan’s greatest fear at the moment was losing her father to the cold hands of death. If Meagan was asked to choose a favorite between her parents then it would be her father. He was everything any child would want in a father. He is her favorite person in the world. Despite the fact that Mr Swift wanted his child to follow his professional path but she picked a different career, it didn’t stop him from loving and caring about her. Mrs Swift has been hell bent on Meagan becoming a lawyer, she had even avoided her for sometime but her husband was able to convince her. Having a medical doctor in the family isn’t so bad. And to top it all, Mr Swift loves werewolves and also has a vast knowledge about their world.

“I don’t want him to die.” Meagan mumbled.

Jones covered the gap between then and he reached out to hold her hands. He didn’t expect that a medical doctor could break down this much. “I am sure he is going to be fine.” Jones said as he embraced her.

Meagan needed that comfort he was offering at that moment. She didn’t let the tears drop but she embraced him and listened as he whispered soothing words to her.
