Chapter Fourteen
Cassy was so bored and tired that she could not keep her eyes closed all through the journey.
She tried to keep her eyes open as the carriage rode down the path which was hazy with sand like that of a desert but the more she tried to keep her eyes open the more the sleep waltz in.
Soon, she found her eyes closing and she rested her head against the wall of the carriage and drifted off.
•
Cassy swirled around in the middle of a garden filled with beautiful flowers and its fragrance hung in the air.
She looked so happy. A genuine smile graced her face and she bent over a yellow tulip and inhaled its fragrance with her eyes closed.
She slowly opened her eyes relishing its scent and she found someone standing in front of her and towering over her.
She squinted her eyes and made to rise when his hand came to her hair and patted it. She found herself smiling at the lad’s ministrations.
She tried to stand up again but his hand would not leave her head. She giggled and when she finally stood, she caught a smile on his face before he left.
She touched her hair trying to process who that was. It took her time before she was able to recognise that it was him.
Cassy ran after him trying to catch up with him but her short legs were no match for his long ones.
•
She felt her body being lifted and she sighed snuggling closer, burying her head in the person’s chest. She inhaled his beautiful scent.
She wrapped her arm around the person’s neck and sighed.
“No, I can handle it. Get people to take care of the trunks,” she heard him speak causing his chest to vibrate against her body.
Cassy sighed and slowly seeped into another slumber.
Her dream continued…
She chased after him. She wanted to call him but she could not recall his name but she knew him. She was sure about that.
“Hey! Stop!” she screamed.
Her body was becoming weak so she stopped and bent over her hands on both knees, panting.
She reached to her hair and touched it remembering their small encounter before looking at his disappearing figure. Why would he not stop?
Cassy could hear voices in her sleep as her consciousness slowly slipped back in.
“Thank goddess! You finally find your mate,” she heard a lady exclaim, happiness laced in her voice.
Who was she? Did he take her on this trip just to visit his concubine?
She tried to calm herself. If this lady was his concubine she was going to leave immediately.
“It’s nothing to merry about,” she heard him huff but surprisingly it did not have any effect on her.
Making progress aren’t we? she wanted to smirk. His recent attitude was enough for her to change.
“Why? Because she is an omega?” she asked. “I presumed that you have always wanted a mate. You have finally found her now you do not want her?”
“She is not just an omega but a weak person!” he raised his voice Cassy’s heart stilled.
She was sure he could do everything now and it wouldn’t have an effect but calling her weak was the last point. She wanted to stand up and slap him to remind him that she hated being called that but she decided to keep still. It would not change anything.
“I am aware that after mother… I wanted a companion but after seeing how father became I prayed to the moon goddess that if I ever had a mate she had to be strong but then she decided to punish me–”
“Stop it you fool!” The lady yelled.
Cassy was sure that if there were other persons in the room they would have flinched as she did. She sighed.
Trying her best not to move was a great task for her. Staying put was hard but it was still worth it, she needed to hear more of the conversation.
She opened her eyes slightly. She saw a lady with blonde hair but she couldn’t see her face. She tried to look closely but the lady glanced at her and she quickly squeezed her eyes shut. She was sure they were wrinkled.
“Follow me,” the lady told him. She could hear movements the lady had left but she could still smell him. What was he waiting for?
It took a little while before she heard him leave.
Cassy exhaled loudly and sat up.
“That was close,” she whispered, moving her hand to and fro on her chest to calm down.
She noted that the room was well decorated, and she could tell that the building had something to do with royalty. She could not help but wonder where she was.
Cassy stood up and went into the balcony. The room was built just like the one she occupied at the palace.
Cassy sat down not knowing what to do. She wondered where the lady had taken him and if he was going to be back early.
She needed to get out of this suffocating room and move about but she did not know where to go.
“I would have to await him,” she said to herself.
Her thought wandered to his words earlier. She could not help but wonder what had happened to his mother that made her lose her life. She was really interested in the matter but she didn’t know who to ask. She was not going to ask him, she was the one who shunned him when he asked about Tabitha. But still, it was not her fault.
The sound of the door opening brought her out of her thoughts. She looked into the room and found him standing there looking upset and deep in thought.
“Ask him!” Natalia hollered.
Cassy hissed. “We spoke about this before. We have no business with him,” And that was enough to shut her out.
Cassy watched him through the corner of her eyes whilst pretending– or actually– drawing as he paced to and fro before taking off his boots and then his cravat.
She was probably invisible to him but she low-key wished he would take off his shirt.
Goddess. When did she become like this?
Their eyes met and she quickly looked away and continued drawing.
Cassy did not know if it was just in her thoughts, but he looked like he wanted to tell her something.
“Good day?” she finally spoke.
If speaking first would make him talk to her then it was worth it. She hated being left hanging.
She watched him raise his eyebrows amusingly and glared at her.
She squinted her eyes silently asking him what was wrong.
He was going to speak when they heard a knock on the door. Their attention turned to the door.
“Come in,”
Two guards opened the door and another two came in with their trunks.
“Your highness, let us know if you want anything,” one of them spoke with his head bowed.
Kai shook his head and dismissed them with a wave of his right hand.
What’s with always acting cold?
Cassy watched Kai move his trunk near the closet and began to bring out his clothes.
“Wh–what are you doing?” she asked, surprised.
“What?” he asked nonchalantly.Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
“This–” she paused and scrunched her face, pointing at the clothes in his hand trying to find the correct words to use. “I mean why are you packing?”
“What? This is my room,” he replied and bent over to pick up his trouser.
“I thought we–”
“You thought what?” he dropped the shirt he was holding and began to stalk her frame. “I.. thought.. you have.. always.. wanted us.. to spend.. a night.. under.. the same roof?” he punctuated his words with a step until he trapped her body against the wall.
He smirked and bent over, bringing his lips closer to her ear.
“Or have you dropped that dream of yours?”
“Wh– which?”
“The one of me ravishing you. You being in my arm–” she pushed him away and escaped from him.
“You rascal!” she screamed and ran out of the room. Her face and neck were red in embarrassment.
How dare he? How could he say such words without feeling uncomfortable?
He was such a chameleon. This minute he is playful but in the next minute, he could snap into something else.
She shook her head to let go of her thoughts. But facing reality, she realised that they were going to be in the same room together and with the way he was acting, she was not sure if he was going to leave just like he was doing at the inn.
Cassy wandered around and came to find out that they were in a palace but still did not know where they were.
Damn. Why did she not ask him just now?
As she kept moving around, she noticed that servants kept gazing at her. She was amused and could not help but wonder what their thoughts were.
Cassy became tired of walking but still, she needed to do something to keep herself busy.
“Good day,” she said to two servants who were passing.
“Good day. What can we help you with?”
Cassy smiled. “I need to get to the library,”
“The library is down the hall. The third door on your right,” one of them replied, pointing.
Cassy nodded and thanked them.
Cassy entered the library and was greeted with the faint smell of dust and old books.
Hmm. She missed this.
Cassy spent the entire day burying her head in between pages, reading anything her hands touched and she found interesting.
She twirled around on the aisle between shelves going through books she felt she could bring along with her to the room.
She could use that busy herself since she had a mate who didn’t try to hide his hatred for her.
She smiled and twirled around but she did not land properly, making her twist her foot.
Just when she thought she was going hit her head on the floor her body landed on something soft.
She knew her body was against something silky. She did not know what it was but she suddenly felt sleepy and wanted to just lay down there but that was until a masculine voice spoke.
“Are you going to stand up or keep laying on my legs?” His voice was filled with amusement.
“I– I am so sorry,” she apologised and tried to stand up but the sharp pain in her leg reminded her that she had just twisted it.
She winced and moved away from the person’s body. She tried to stand up but she ended up yelping at the blinding pain in her leg.
She was suddenly picked up and placed over a large shoulder.
“Let me down!” Cassy kicked and thrashed about but he did not budge.
“Do you think acting like that would make me put you down?” he said and chuckled making her still.
The man dropped her on a table and she had the opportunity to see his face.
He was blonde with blue eyes, he had a lean figure and he was tall but not as tall as Kai, he had a small pink lip which sat as a pout on his lips. In simple terms, the man was beautiful.
He sat in front of her and picked her right leg. He removed her shoes and began to massage her ankle.
Cassy could not hold back the yelp and small moans that escaped from her lips as he did so. After he finished, he helped her wear her shoe before standing up.
“Thank you,” she whispered.
He smiled. “You don’t have to. Now let’s get you out of here,”
Cassy smiled and hung her hand around his neck, supporting her weight as she leapt out of the library.
Servants bowed and guards greeted them as soon as they passed. Cassy could not help but wonder who he was but still, she kept her questions to herself.
Cassy found the man amazing as he chatted with her, talking about almost everything they saw. She found him adorable and fun to be with.
“I think the room was around here,” she told him as soon as they came to a familiar environment she thought led to their room.
“Sure. Don’t worry I won’t allow you to get lost, like I said before I know my way around here,” he assured her and she smiled.
Still with a smile on her face, looked across the hall and found Kai standing with the lady she recognised from earlier and her face fell.
“How could he be smiling with her when you are on one foot!?” Natalia was very organized but Cassy has come to understand that when it came to her mate, she was crazy.
Cassy held onto him and leapt faster until she was standing in front of him.
“Hello, mate,” did that just come out from her?
“We were coming to meet you,” Kai told her, oblivious of her anger.
We? Why were they looking for her? To rub their relationship in her face?
“This is my aunt and Luna of the Blessed Moon pack, Marlene,”
Cassy wanted to scream. His aunt!? It can’t be! She has made a terrible mistake!
