Nelly didn’t see anyone when she entered the alley. Although it was long, the end was visible and there was nowhere to hide. She thought there might be hidden areas, so she walked further in. However, she soon realized it was a dead end and there was no restroom.
As she studied the area, a figure suddenly appeared behind her and hugged her. Surprised, Nelly was about to pull away when Alpha Kilian whispered, “Nelly, it’s me.” She froze, feeling his warmth and scent against her.
“Where were you hiding?” she asked softly.
“I want to hide in your heart,” Alpha Kilian murmured, nuzzling his nose against her neck. A smile crossed Nelly’s face. “How did you get here?”
Alpha Kilian raised his head and turned her around, pinning her against the wall. “Did you think I wouldn’t come?” he asked, looking into her eyes. Nelly’s gaze held a mix of willfulness and admiration as she hadn’t seen his face in a long time.
“Not that you wouldn’t, but I didn’t dare think about it,” Nelly replied.
“Are you saying my love for you isn’t deep enough?” Alpha Kilian questioned her directly. Nelly stared at him, unable to find the words.
Suddenly, Alpha Kilian took a step forward and pressed Nelly against the wall. “Nelly, am I not doing enough? Is that why you think that way?”
“I just didn’t think someone would risk their life to love me.”
Alpha Kilian took a breath and kissed her on the lips. Nelly didn’t resist but instead wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him back. The recent loneliness made her realize how much she missed him.
Despite her refusal to admit it, Alpha Kilian had become indispensable to her. They hugged each other and continued kissing passionately for an unknown amount of time.
Alpha Kilian gradually let go of her, pressing his forehead against hers and catching his breath. “Nelly, come with me!” he pleaded. Nelly shook her head.
“Do you know how much danger you’re in?” Alpha Kilian looked at her anxiously. “That man, Boss, will use you to threaten me!”
“Alpha Kilian, I can’t leave. I need to go to Midnight Fang Pack to find out the truth!” Alpha Kilian furrowed his brows.
“Now that I’m just one step away from the truth, I can’t back out. Without knowing the truth, I’ll never be happy for the rest of my life.”
Alpha Kilian stared at her, unsure of what to say. From another perspective, he couldn’t think of anything else that could stop her because he understood this feeling. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
There were certain matters more important than one’s own life. Seeing his silence, Nelly realized he had compromised.
“I don’t know what happened between you and Boss, but I told him I don’t love you. So, Alpha Kilian, you shouldn’t act desperately looking for me. Otherwise, you’ll just be giving him that opportunity.”
“I can’t do it! I’ll never be at peace as long as you’re by his side.” “Trust me. Once I find out the truth, I’ll come back to you.” Alpha Kilian continued to stare at her reluctantly.
“Promise me, alright?” Nelly pleaded. “Alpha Kilian? Hmm?”
Her last words caused Alpha Kilian’s heart to skip a beat. He simply looked at her, having long surrendered himself.
Taking a step forward, he wrapped her in his arms. “When you told Boss that you didn’t love me, were you telling the truth?”
The question stunned Nelly. She smiled and asked, “What do you think?”
“I wanted to hear you say it.” Alpha Kilian stared at her intently.
Before Nelly could reply, there was a sudden knock on the door. “Ms. Watson, Boss has called and asked us to hurry up.”
After glancing at the door, Nelly turned to face Alpha Kilian with conviction in her eyes. “I have to go. I’ll be heading to Midnight Fang Pack tomorrow. Once I find out the truth, I’ll find a way to contact you.”
…
Upon returning to the hotel, Nelly saw Boss waiting for her as she got out of the car. He approached her and asked, “Did you manage to buy it?” Nelly raised the item she was holding.
Boss continued, “I don’t suppose you need to go there again after today, right?” Confused, Nelly questioned, “What do you mean?” Boss explained, “Haven’t you noticed that the uninhabited zone has been getting more crowded lately?”
Nelly realized that Boss was right. “What are you trying to say?” she asked. Unexpectedly, Boss inquired about her knowledge of hackers, his authoritative presence contrasting with his pale appearance.
Realizing they had similarities with hackers, Nelly replied, “Of course I do. I’m a programmer myself. The work we do shares plenty of similarities with theirs.”
Boss proceeded to discuss hackers’ website where they interacted and offered special missions. Nelly was already aware of this information. “What’s your point?” she asked.
Calmly, Boss looked at Nelly and added, “There’s a function on the website where people can post a reward for certain tasks. A few days ago, a hacker named Anonymous posted a bounty on my head.”
Nelly froze upon hearing this news. The mention of Tony’s moniker stirred a hint of uneasiness in her eyes, as she was unaware of this issue.
She had refrained from logging in during the past two days because she knew that the internet connection was blocked and feared being discovered. Tony’s actions had never crossed her mind.
He must be really desperate, she thought. Nelly asked, “Is the bounty the reason why someone tried to assassinate you?”
After a brief pause, Boss responded in an uncertain tone, “I’m not sure. It’s still under investigation, but I can’t rule it out.”
Nelly smirked and sarcastically said, “So, what’s the price on your head from the person who posted the bounty?” Boss sighed, “It’s incredibly high. Unbelievably high, in fact!”
Pursing her lips, Nelly scoffed, “Well, in that case, you should ask if you’ll get the reward for committing suicide.”
Boss’s eyes dimmed as he scrutinized her. Boss’s eyes dimmed as he scrutinized her.
“What? Did I say something wrong? Since the Midnight Fang Pack is desperate for funds, you might as well claim the reward instead of letting someone else do it.”
“Who told you that the Midnight Fang Pack is short on funds?” Boss asked.
“Isn’t it obvious? Just from your words alone, I can tell that your leader is pressuring you to contribute money. Isn’t that right?”
Boss gave her a probing look. Nelly’s ability to perceive the situation so clearly, despite being a woman of few words, impressed him.
After a momentary silence, Boss commented, “You’re really smart!” “Well, you guys made it pretty obvious.”
A glint flashed across Boss’s eyes. “In that case, do you know what my plan is?” Nelly pondered for a moment. “Alpha Kilian?”
Boss’s gaze darkened as he silently stared at Nelly. “What is it? Did I get it wrong?” Nelly asked.
Looking at her, Boss broke into a smile, but it was one that could send a chill down one’s spine.
“No, you’re right. So, what do you think? Since you hate him so much, do you want me to cheat him out of his money so that you can get back at him?”
As if they were both playing a game against each other, Nelly also curled her lips into a grin. “If you want to swindle his money, why do you need to pretend to do it on my behalf?”
