Divorcing 34
Chapter 34: The Sarcasm
Chloe drove home to find Candy lounging on the couch, watching TV.
"Did you handle it?"
Chloe shot her a fierce glare. "No way. Your dumb idea wasted my entire morning."
Candy hunched her shoulders.
She wondered, "Why did Chloe come back so irritable after just one trip?"
Chloe wasn't ready to give up. She grabbed her phone and shot Michael another text, but still, no reply.
She thought, "That damn idiot! Is he blind?"
Chloe waited forever, frustration bubbling up until she slammed her phone down again.
Chloe felt restless at home, so she jumped up, looked down at Candy, and said, "Let's go."
"Where are we headed?"
There are only a few ways for women to ease anxiety and pass the time.
Chapter 34: The Sarcasm
Chloe took the easiest, most straightforward route: shopping.
Candy found it totally bizarre.
Whenever Candy invited Chloe to go shopping, Chloe would always say she hadn't finished ironing Michael's clothes or that she was waiting for him to get home from work. Chloe went from a fierce wildcat to a sweet, loving housewife.
If Candy had known that divorce would totally free Chloe's true self, she would've badmouthed Michael more in front of her to make her give up.
"Candy, how about I put the house in your name first?"
"You're not clueless anymore. You know putting your name down makes it shared property, right?"
"I'm planning for the future."
To Chloe, the term "marital assets" was a cruel joke.
In the torn-up agreement by Michael, she got nothing but Apricot Manor.
People only get mean and stingy when they're out of love.
If you didn't get the person, got hurt, and don't even care about the money, then you're just plain stupid!
Chapter 34: The Sarcasm Candy didn't say no.
She thought, "This works. When the time is right, I'll hand it back to Chloe."
The two strolled leisurely into the mall.
Chloe turned her head and saw Candy staring at something.
She followed Candy's gaze and spotted a familiar figure.
Candy nudged Chloe with her elbow. "Isn't that Michael's
cousin?"
Chloe nodded.
That girl was Victoria's daughter, Cathy Swift, and Michael's so-called cousin.
Victoria married Harvey Swift from the Swift family-quite a fitting match.
Harvey was never good at playing power games in the Swift family. He was practically invisible, barely putting in any effort at work and having almost no say in anything. If Victoria weren't so strong-willed, they'd probably be speechless around the Swift family.
Chloe had heard Victoria call her husband a coward more than
once at family dinners back at the Shawn Manor.

Victoria raised her daughter Cathy to be just as bossy, headstrong, and domineering as she is. Cathy had it out for Chloe and constantly caused her trouble.
Chloe thought, "Seriously? Of all days, I had to bump into them today. Just my luck!"
With a sigh, she grabbed Candy's hand and turned to leave. But from afar, Cathy spotted her.
Cathy strutted over in her high heels, oozing confidence.
"Isn't this a members-only mall? Why's everyone getting in? You all reek of poverty!"
Cathy wrinkled her nose, waving her hand in front of her face like she smelled something foul. "Cathy, is that really how you talk to your elders?"
