A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 12 Heartache

Ranita woke up feeling thirsty. Her throat was sore, her head heavy, and her breath felt like it was on fire. She reached for her phone and realized she had a fever.

Last night, instead of going to Dylan’s place, Ranita stayed at a hotel. Dylan didn’t want her to be alone so he booked the room next to hers.

As soon as she turned on her phone, she saw that it was already past 10 am and there were several missed calls and messages waiting for her.

“Hello? Mr. Stuart? What’s up?” Ranita answered the call while holding onto the bedpost for support.

“Miss Bowman, are you okay? Your voice sounds hoarse,” Caleb Stuart asked with concern.

“I’m fine. Why are you calling me so early?”This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Well… Mr. Bassett has an urgent matter in Dubai and needs to leave immediately.”

Ranita understood what that meant without Caleb having to explain further: they needed to sign a contract before noon today!

“What about Brendon?” Ranita asked while rummaging through her luggage for clothes.

“I’ve already informed him.”

“Oh…,” Ranita pondered for a few seconds, looking at the empty suitcase with no clothes to wear, falling into silence.

She had fallen asleep as soon as she entered the room last night and hadn’t carefully looked at what was inside the suitcase.

It was indeed Amiya’s doing!

“I will hurry over as soon as possible!” Ranita hung up the phone, feeling heavy-headed but light-footed as she quickly freshened up. While packing her things, Ranita realized that the flash drive in her bag was missing. It contained important information that she needed for today!

Ranita’s head was pounding, and she vaguely remembered that the flash drive might have been left at Boulderland Mansion. She had no choice but to ask Dylan to take her there.

Familiar with the route, Ranita climbed the stairs to the second floor. Just as she was about to knock on the door, she heard Shannon’s voice filled with grievance from inside, “I saw Ranita leaving last night and was worried that you had drunk too much, so I came to take care of you. Who knew you would suddenly…”

“Brendon… I’m sorry… It’s all my fault! I shouldn’t have entered your room without permission. You don’t have to blame yourself too much!”

Boom!

Ranita felt as if a lightning bolt had struck her heart.

Trembling, she gently pushed open the door, and at that moment, Ranita’s heart, once flesh and blood, felt like it had been thrown into an icy abyss.

Coldness enveloped her blood and limbs, leaving her without the courage to even breathe…

On the large bed in the center of the room, the clothes of a man and a woman were in disarray. There was no need to guess what had happened!

“Ranita?” Brendon saw Ranita suddenly appear and felt a moment of panic, but quickly composed himself. “Will you listen to my explanation?”

What else was there to explain?!

“No need. I just came back to get something! I’ll leave right away!” Ranita’s head was spinning, and her legs were so weak that she could barely stand on the floor.

Shannon scrambled to her feet and grabbed Ranita’s hand, looking at her with a pitifully distressed expression. “Ranita, things aren’t what you think! Can you please listen to me explain?”

After just a few words, Shannon’s tears started to flow. She sobbed pitifully, “It’s my fault and has nothing to do with Brendon. Don’t blame Brendon, blame me!”
