No More Waiting, She Chooses Love

Chapter 663

Chapter 663

Who could I possibly turn to for digging up the dark secrets of the Clark family?

My mind raced to Yolande Clark. Yes, she was part of the Clarks, but she had always struck me as someone with a strong sense of justice, much like Ernest. However, with Ernest gone, she had no reason to help me out. Besides, blood is thicker than water, and I doubted she was ready to turn her back on her family for my sake.

Then there was Shirley Travis. She had once confessed her hatred for Lord Clark to me, but she had betrayed me before. Trusting her was a gamble -she could very well sell me out before lending a hand.

I racked my brain but couldn't think of anyone reliable. Yet, I was determined to expose the Clark family's illicit enterprises, not just for my parents' revenge but also to save those girls who had been victimized by them.

Deborah, though she hadn't gone into much detail, had given me enough to piece together a disturbing picture. The Clarks had been grooming men like Deborah's boyfriend to deceive girls under the guise of romance, pushing them into debts they couldn't repay and then forcing them into unspeakable acts to settle their dues. And I was certain their criminal activities didn't end there.

Tossing and turning, sleep eluded me. But no matter how hard the path, I was not ready to give up.

Since sleep was a lost cause, I decided to go for a run early in the morning. They say exercise is the best stress reliever, but just as I reached the lobby, I bumped into Conrad.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.

He was standing by his car, which was surrounded by a pile of cigarette butts. His hair was a mess, his eyes dull and lifeless.

Had he been here all night, guarding me from Dustin? Or was he worried I might...

"Let's grab some breakfast?" His voice was hoarse, probably from the cigarettes.

I knew he had more on his mind than just food. "No need, just spit it out," I refused.

Conrad's gaze darkened further. After a brief silence, he spoke with a heavy tone, "Felicia, can you please stop this game?"

I remained silent, prompting him to step closer. "I'm begging you, okay?"

No, it wasn't okay!

I could find other ways to get back at the Wagner family, but Dustin was my only lead into the Clark's shady dealings. I couldn't just walk away. "Conrad, I think we've been over this. What I do and who I see is my business, not yours," I reminded him, trying to maintain my ground.

"Just stay away from Dustin," he pleaded, pain evident in his expression. "Anyone but him. Like when you were with Ernest."

"And why not Dustin? Because of

your bruised ego?" I retorted,

feeling humiliated by my association with Dustin.

He fixed me with a stern look, "Just keep your distance from him. He's not as great as you think."

His words sent a shiver down my spine. Why would he say that? Did he know something I didn't?

"What's wrong with him?" I blurted out impulsively.

Conrad's expression stiffened, and he remained silent.

Clearly, he knew something but wasn't willing to share. It seemed Dustin really did have skeletons in his closet.

But I didn't press further. Instead, I

said, "Conrad, I'm an adult. I know

what I'm doing and who I'm choosing. And you, being my have no say in it, let alone my parents."

He looked away, clearly frustrated with my stubbornness.

"Oh, by the way, I saw Haley Perez at the bar a few days ago. She didn't seem to be doing too well. If you're so free, maybe you could check on her My voice trailed off as a sudden thought struck me.
