Chapter 114
I
Kaia POV
The moment I open my eyes I know I've made a mistake...I've overslept. Completely unlike me.
I leap out of bed frantically throwing clothes on and pulling my hair up into a high knot bun, before racing to the bathroom to freshen myself up.
No tim
time for a shower this morning, the deodorant spray will have to work on overtime today.
I should have gone to bed with the rest of the household but when Samson flashed marshmallows and wine from behind his back, as I retired towards the stairs, I couldn't seem to find it in me to say no.
I race down the stairs, taking 2 at a time to find the house staff already tidying up after breakfast. I really have slept in, even the premade coffee was on the verge of being cold.
I head to Father's office in search of Samson having missed our morning training session as well...this really wasn't good for a Luna. I open the office door to find Father behind his desk, a grimace upon his face as he watches a silver laced needle enter his arm An almighty growl emits from me as I can smell blood in the air and the stinging scent of the silver also reaching my nose. What had I walked in on.
"What is going on?" I close the door behind me, my eyes searching Father's, Samson's and the doctor's faces for an explanation. Nobody answers me, not even when the doctor removes the needle and the vial of blood, placing it in his suitcase and locking it away. "Father?" I ask again as the Doctor hastily walks past me not making eye contact, his head held down sheepishly as he exits the room. My eyes take on a pointed look as I look back at my Father, still in his chair.
"Its nothing..." Father starts to reply as he rolls down his sleeve and buttons up his shirt's cuff.
"It doesn't look like nothing." I reply with annoyance.
"...I just wanted to check."
"Check for what?" I ask looking between him and Samson for a hint. Then it dawns on me.
"No Father!"
"I might not even be a match...let's just wait and see what the results reveal."Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
"No..."
"It's okay Kaia, it might be she can survive and have a fulfilling life as before, with just the 1 kidney. Let the Doctor do his job first and complete the tests.
This had never been on the cards before, Father had never once mentioned the possibility of him being a donor option and I hadn't once thought of it. But he was already weak from his leg injury, potentially also other lasting wounds I'm certain I do not know about. Could he survive himself with just 1 kidney.
"What about you.....you'd only have 1 kidney?"
"Let the doctor do the medical part....I've given blood that's my part for now. If I am a match then we can
discuss it then. She has agreed to be a pack member so I need you to start the planning of the ceremony." He pauses with a happy smile upon his face before looking at my bewildered and quite frankly annoyed face.
"Look let's not get ahead of ourselves. He says she is so weak that even just the 1 might not work..."
"Then I'll give the other one.." If Father gave a kidney, his sacrifice would have to work.
"No Kala, under no circumstance.."
"But it's okay for you to do it?"
"No Kaia, never."
I storm out of the office, Samson calling out to me from behind but I don't stop. Did she put him up to this?
I mind-link some of the guards for her current location, and they tell me she is on the cliff tops, further away than she should be...especially on her own and unable to shift in case of an attack.
I locate her at my favourite spot, her legs swinging on the edge my anger having not decreased in my walk over here. If anything the walk had made it pump faster around my body.
"Did you put him up to it?" I shout out to her.
"Excuse me?"
"The kidney transplant...he's being measured up as we speak?"
"What? Kaia no, honestly I would never. I told you I didn't come for that."
"Really?"
"Yes really... He's not mentioned this to me. He said the Doctor was for something else and sent me on my way. Otherwise I would have stopped him.." My wolf can't sense Alora's, but she can sense her sincerity...she wasn't lying. "So you didn't ask him to check if his blood matched?
"No Kaia...I swear on the moon herself...I haven't."
Her response does seem to offer me a level of calmness, Father did have a way of doing things without permission...hence why we were on these lands in the first place.
I decide to sit down beside her, taking a deep breath in as I join her as she gazes back out at the horizon. My old insecurities had been triggered and I felt embarrassed for automatically blaming Alora.
"Father says you have agreed to join the pack.."
"Yes, I think it is the right choice."
"You've made his day...and it isn't even 9am." I chuckle, Alora joining in with me.
"And you?"
"We have some mountains to climb, but it would be good to do it together." I smile at her. To truly move on with Alora I had to let the past go, and concentrate on my future...on our future, We shared the same
womb once, we can share the same father and pack going forward.
